Chimpanzee tracking is one of Uganda’s most rewarding primate activities. Guests enter the forest with trained guides to look for habituated chimpanzee communities, listening for calls, following fresh signs and moving through forest trails until the group is found.
Kibale National Park is Uganda’s best-known chimpanzee trekking destination, but it is not the only option. Budongo Forest near Murchison Falls, Kyambura Gorge near Queen Elizabeth, Kalinzu Forest and Ngamba Island can also fit different routes and travel styles.

Kibale National Park is the best-known and most established chimpanzee trekking destination in Uganda.
Is chimpanzee trekking difficult?
It is usually moderate. The walk can be easy or demanding depending on chimpanzee movement, weather and trail conditions.
Can chimp tracking combine with gorillas?
Yes. A common Uganda primate safari combines Kibale chimpanzees with Bwindi or Mgahinga gorilla trekking.
Is it guaranteed to see chimpanzees?
