Day-by-Day Itinerary

A daily route covering the full 14-day safari, transfers, activities, lodges, and meals.

Your adventure begins as you descend over Africa’s largest Lake Victoria to land at Entebbe International Airport,.Here a warm welcome awaits you from your TVent Rwenzori Safaris guide. Depending on your arrival time, you could find space to visit the Entebbe Botanical Gardens, a tranquil oasis filled with lush greenery, exotic trees, and a variety of bird species such as the African grey parrot and sunbirds. Entebbe Botanical gardens are also famous for its giant vines that served as the backdrop for the Tarzan movies in the 1940s. If you have more time, explore local craft markets or enjoy a relaxing sunset on the shores of Lake Victoria or even a quick boat trip to Mabamba island where you can catch sight of the shy shoebill stork up close and personal.

Begin your journey with a drive to the Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary, the only exclusive place in Uganda where you can see rhinos in the wild. Here accompanied by expert guides, you will enjoy a walking safari as you track these magnificent creatures. This sanctuary plays a critical role in the re-introduction of the rhino and their conservation efforts in Uganda.

After lunch, continue with your safari to Murchison Falls National Park, Uganda’s largest and oldest national park. The park is famed for its dramatic waterfalls where the Nile squeezes through a narrow 7-meter-widegorge. Enjoy panoramic views of rolling savannahs, acacia woodlands, and scattered villages along the way.

Set out for an early morning game drive on the northern banks of the Nile, teeming with a wide range of wildlife. Look out for elephants, Rothschild’s giraffes, buffaloes, lions, leopards, and various species of antelopes among them the Uganda Kob and oribis. Bird enthusiasts can spot species like the Abyssinian ground hornbill and the secretary bird.

In the afternoon, set out on a leisurely boat cruise along the Nile which will wind up at the base of the Murchison’s Falls. Marvel as it roars and cascades thunderously down a seven-metergorge whilelooking out for hippos, Nile crocodiles, and an array of waterbirds like the African skimmer and Goliath heron.

Optional Activities: Hike to the top of Murchison Falls for spectacular views or take a sundowner cruise.

Journey to the lush Budongo Forest Reserve, located within Murchison Falls National Park. This is the largest mahogany forest in East Africa and home to a thriving population of chimpanzees. Guided by expert trackers, venture into the forest to observe chimpanzees in their natural habitat. Along the way, spot other primates like black-and-white colobus monkeys and red-tailed monkeys, as well as various bird species. Spend the afternoon relaxing at your lodge or exploring nearby nature trails.

Drive south to Kibale Forest National Park, known as the “Primate Capital of the World.” The scenic journey passes through tea plantations, rolling hills, and crater lakes. Upon arrival, unwind at your lodge nestled amidst lush surroundings. Kibale Forest is home to 13 primate species, including chimpanzees, L’Hoest’s monkeys, and grey-cheeked mangabeys.

Spend the morning tracking chimpanzees in Kibale Forest, a thrilling experience that brings you face-to-face with these lively primates. You may also encounter swamp-dwelling animals like otters and sitatunga antelopes. The wetland walk is also an excellent opportunity to engage with local communities.

The park is also home to over 600 bird species, making it a birding paradise.

Begin your day with an exciting game drive in the Kasenyi Plains, an area renowned for its high concentrations of predators and prey. You’ll have opportunities to see prides of lions, spotted hyenas, and large herds of buffaloes and elephants. Keep an eye out for unique species like the giant forest hog and the elusive leopard.

In the afternoon, embark on a relaxing boat cruise along the Kazinga Channel, a natural waterway connecting Lake George and Lake Edward. This cruise offers some of the best opportunities to observe wildlife up close, including dense populations of hippos, Nile crocodiles, and an impressive variety of water birds, such as the African fish eagles and pink-backed pelicans.

Start your day with a scenic drive to the southern sector of Queen Elizabeth National Park— Ishasha. It is famed for its tree-climbing lions. Embark on a morning game drive through this unique area, where you can also spot elephants, buffaloes, and a variety of antelope species. The memorable moment here is undoubtedly the chance to see lions lounging amongst the branches of fig trees, a behavior that makes the Ishasha sector world-renowned.

After the game drive, enjoy a leisurely lunch before transferring to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. The drive takes you through stunning terrains of southwestern Uganda, including lush hillsides and dense forests. Upon arrival, relax at your lodge, where you can enjoy breathtaking views of the park and surrounding landscapes.

Day ten takes you to the most anticipated moments of the trip—gorilla trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. It is one of the UNESCO World Heritage sites. After an early breakfast, you’ll be transferred to the park headquarters for a briefing on gorilla trekking safety and etiquette. Then, accompanied by expert guides and trackers, you start the trek through dense rainforest in search of the endangered mountain gorillas.

This enthralling experience can range from a short hike to several hours depending on where the gorillas are located. Once you find them, you will have an unforgettable hour observing these magnificent creatures in their natural habitat. After your trek, enjoy a well-deserved lunch at the lodge.

In the afternoon, visit the Batwa community, one of Uganda's indigenous groups, for a cultural experience. Learn about their traditional way of life, including their ancient forest-dwelling skills and knowledge, and hear their fascinating stories.

Optional Activities: Visit the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest for additional guided forest walks.

After the intense but thrilling gorilla trekking adventure, enjoy a relaxing day at Lake Bunyonyi, often referred to as one of Uganda’s most beautiful lakes. The drive to Lake Bunyonyi will take you through the scenic hills of southwestern Uganda. Upon arrival, you can unwind in your lodge with panoramic views of the lake and its many islands.

Lake Bunyonyi is a great place for a leisurely day, with options for boat cruises, swimming, or simply relaxing by the lake. You may also visit some of the islands, like Akampene Island, which was historically used to abandon unmarried pregnant women as punishment for breaking societal norms. Many faced starvation or drowned attempting escape, while others were rescued by poor men unable to afford bride price.

Optional Activities: Canoeing, island-hopping, cultural tours, or simply relaxing by the lake

After breakfast you will depart from Lake Bunyonyi for the scenic drive to Lake Mburo National Park. This is a smaller, yet remarkable park in Uganda, offering a different kind of safari experience with its wide variety of wildlife and acacia filled landscapes. Upon arrival, enjoy a walking safari led by experienced rangers. The walking safari is an excellent way to get a closer look at the park’s flora and fauna, including zebras, impalas, giraffes, and various bird species.

After the walk, you can choose to relax at your lodge or head out for an afternoon game drive. Lake Mburo is also home to a wide variety of birds and offers a great opportunity for birdwatching.

Enjoy your final game drive through Lake Mburo National Park in the morning, looking for any animals you may have missed earlier like the Eland which can be quite illusive to catch with its acute eyesight and hearing. This park offers a unique mix of savannah, wetlands, and forest, providing a home to various wildlife, including zebras, buffaloes, and several antelope species.

In the afternoon, embark on a relaxing boat cruise on Lake Mburo, where you can see hippos, crocodiles, and a variety of waterbirds in their natural environment. After the boat cruise, start your journey back to Entebbe, where you will arrive in the late evening.

Optional Activities: Visit local villages along the way for a cultural experience.

Where to Stay: Same as Day 1 (depending on departure time)

Depending on your flight time, you may have some time for optional visits in Entebbe, such as exploring the Uganda Wildlife Education Center or visiting the Entebbe Botanical Gardens once more. Other areas that you could visit are Lutembe Bay and Mabamba Islands with their rich array of local and migratory birds from Europe. Or it could be a boat cruise to the Ngamba Island sanctuary of rescued chimpanzees. The islands are also teeming with wild birds. Or take a leisurely tour of the town’s beaches where you can enjoy grilled or roast freshly caught Tilapia, catfish or Nile perch from Lake Victoria. Alternatively, you could relax at your hotel before your flight. Your guide will transfer you to Entebbe International Airport for your departure.
